EMILY’S STEM SUCCESS STORY
Emily, born in 2002, is a proud Hispanic/Latina woman pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a concentration in Software Engineering. Set to graduate in May 2024, she is deeply passionate about expanding her knowledge of programming languages and exploring the hardware side of computing. Emily’s journey into STEM+C was shaped by her curiosity and the encouragement of her family, particularly her older brothers who work in tech. Initially aspiring to become a teacher, Emily’s path shifted after discovering the creative and problem-solving potential of computer science. Today, she is determined to become a software developer who contributes to innovative, user-centered solutions across the tech landscape.
Emily’s faith journey is rooted in the principle, “Do What Will Make Me Happy.” This principle is inspired by Ecclesiastes 3:12–13: “I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live.” Pursuing joy through meaningful work is a way of honoring God’s blessings. Her story reflects a belief that happiness and purpose are not mutually exclusive, but rather intertwined. By following her passion for technology and embracing the challenges of her field, Emily models a life of intentionality, resilience, and faith. Her story encourages others to seek fulfillment in their STEM+C paths, trusting that joy and goodness are part of God's greater divine plan.
