AMY’S STEM SUCCESS STORY

Amy, born in 2002, is a Hispanic/Latina woman pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science, with plans to graduate in May 2024. She is deeply passionate about building software that serves people and has a growing interest in cybersecurity. Amy’s vision for her future includes securing a fulfilling and financially stable career that allows her to support her family, especially her parents, and eventually start a family of her own. Her journey through STEM has been shaped by resilience, self-discovery, and a commitment to using technology as a tool for positive change.

Guided by the principle, “Treat Other People How You Wanna Be Treated,” Amy’s faith journey is rooted in empathy, respect, and inclusion—this value has shaped how she approaches collaboration and innovation in STEM. This principle is inspired by Luke 6:31: “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” Growing up, Amy’s family emphasized kindness and empathy as core values, teaching her to help others and create inclusive spaces. This perspective has shaped her approach to STEM, where she strives to design solutions that uplift others and foster collaboration. Amy’s story reminds us to lead with compassion, treat others with respect, and build a community where everyone feels valued.
